Callen-Lorde has become the health care provider of choice for the more than 16,000 New Yorkers. Our patients know they can get quality care in a place where it is safe to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, younger, older, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, male, female -- anyone. That is Callen-Lorde's mission, and we're proud of it.
But no matter the patient or their unique circumstances, everyone knows that health care costs a lot these days, and for our patients without insurance or with limited ability to pay, this is where Callen-Lorde's donors like you play an important role.
Here are some services Callen-Lorde provides that donor dollars help pay for:
- A prescription asthma inhaler for a homeless teenager: $25
- An HIV test and counseling for a man who just came out: $65
- An appointment with a doctor for an older adult with a fever and cough: $100
- A state-of-the-art gynecological exam and biopsy for a lesbian mom: $250
Taken alone, none of these things are that expensive -- it's easy to imagine yourself helping someone by paying for a prescription or an important blood test. And that is just what hundreds of Callen-Lorde donors did last year -- thank you, donors!
When you add it all up, every year Callen-Lorde donors help pay for $2.7 million in unreimbursed care for people who couldn't afford to pay for it themselves. What an amazing and wonderful expression of compassion -- and recognition of the important work that goes on at Callen-Lorde.
