Health Education Resource Center (HERC)
The HERC is Callen-Lorde's on-site, state-of-the-art health resource center, which provides access to quality health information.
HERC offers:
- High-speed access to Internet-based health information
through three computer workstations;
- A collection of health-related print materials, including
professional health journals, newsletters, pamphlets,
fact sheets, and over 400 consumer health books.
HERC is managed by a full-time health educator, the HERC Coordinator, who also trains and supervises HERC peer educators. These peer educators assist individuals in accessing health information through on-line research and the HERC's print collection. The HERC is a unique program that serves as a clearinghouse of information on LGBT health issues alongside providing one-on-one health education/risk reduction interventions
HERC is open, free of charge, to Callen-Lorde patients, staff, volunteers, LGBT people and people living with HIV, anyone interested in LGBT health, and members of the general public.
The HERC can be reached by telephone at: (212) 271-7287.
