Sexual Health Clinic
Callen-Lorde emphasizes prevention of sexually-transmitted infections (STI) and has improved access to STI clinical care by offering screening and treatment services apart from primary care in our Sexual Health Clinic.
In an effort to address the rise in the number of syphilis and gonorrhea cases in NYC, Callen-Lorde routinely provides over 200 STI screening visits per month.
The goals of the Sexual Health Clinic are two-fold:
- to increase access to comprehensive STI clinical care
- to incorporate a risk reduction approach into STI screening and treatment
To achieve these goals, medical providers, nurses and counselors will individually address the medical, educational and counseling needs of each patient.
Clinical services offered through the Sexual Health Clinic include:
- Screening for STIs (i.e., gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis
and hepatitis A and B) in anatomic men without symptoms
- Treatment for STIs in anatomic men who have had a known
exposure
- Diagnosis and treatment for symptomatic STIs
- Prevention education and risk reduction counseling to
help individuals examine their sexual behavior and all
activities associated with it in order to minimize risk
for STIs and HIV, while retaining a satisfying and fulfilling
sex life.
